per Estee, Uncle Charlie had his own business selling stocks and bonds and insurance in Marshalltown, Iowa He also owned a turkey farm. Uncle Charlie drove an Auburn automobile until it was stolen in Chicago while he was there on a business trip. He built a large brick home - Esther Strombotne

After Grandfather Ames, Uncle Walter and Uncle John died, Grandmother Ames inherited the farm in Willamette Valley. My Uncle Charlie made an arrangement with my mother whereby he would pay my grandmother's expenses if my mother would care for my grandmother's physical needs in exchange for which he would receive title to the farm. - Esther Strombotne
